I’ve been plugging away at my QIP box this year. It is a plastic storage bin, about halfway full of perfectly cut squares, assorted wonky blocks, sections of free piecing, & stacks of fabrics that are perfectly coordinated, but not my style anymore. Everything in there is a project that hit the skids for some reason – usually bad design or colors I don’t connect with.
First up – a pile of fabrics in rustic red, rose pink, & sage green. I originally removed this stack from my stash because it didn’t fit in with my other stuff & wasn’t really my style anymore. But I had a hard time getting rid of them because they all coordinated so nicely with each other. So last year, I set out to make a quilt with them as a gift for someone special, & made a few large asymmetrical blocks. Unfortunately, the block design kind of clashed with the fabric style. So, the whole mess went into the QIP box.
Well, out it has come. I set the asymmetrical blocks aside & instead opted for a design inspired by this quilt & also this one. Much better. I was able to use the asymmetrical blocks in a patchwork strip on the back. Should be ready by Christmas 2010! ![]()

It feels so good to pull QIPs out o the box and get back on track. I really like those designs. Simple and a perfect fit for those fabrics.

( Guess I like to torture myself by being able to see them easier hahaha )
You summed up very well why my projects end up on the QIP shelf too —no box–just a shelf
Anyway…luck to you. Sounds like it will look good in the end—even if it’s not your all time favorite quilt!
